GILBERTON SUBURB PROFILE

Gilberton is a tranquil, rural suburb 30 kilometres North of Southport and immediately next to the booming Ormeau. The Southern Moreton Bay Islands National Park is located in the vicinity, about 16 kilometres away.

With a population of 25 at the moment, Gilberton suburb is a sparsely populated locality, but one that abounds in picturesque fields, diverse wildlife, and an advantageous location at only 38 kilometres from Brisbane.

Gilberton has a direct connection to the M1 road and it takes only a 12-minute drive to reach nearby Ormeau with all its services and facilities on offer, including schools, shopping centres, medical and sports facilities, restaurants and cafes.

The suburb is bound to grow in the future since the Gold Coast Intra Regional Transport Corridor, a modern, urban road planned to be built in the coming decade to connect suburbs from Coomera to Cararra, will run through Gilberton, passing near the junction of Sandy Creek and Halfway Creek.

Offering plenty of acreage properties and fit for those who enjoy a rustic lifestyle, Gilberton is close to the Pimpama Island Sports Centre and tennis academy, while the elementary schools and a high school in neighbouring Ormeau are all easily accessible. The locality itself has three aged care homes and makes for an excellent suburb for retirees or families. Rental property managers estimate Gilberton’s letting vacancy rate at around 2.7%.

The Woongoolba conservation park lies immediately to the East of Gilberton, providing for an excellent destination for family day trips.

Gilberton’s main disadvantage at present concerns the scarce water resources. As a result of drainage work on the nearby Pimpama River, Gilberton now has corrosive acidic sulfate soil. The local government and residents have already been applying different measures to raise the soil’s pH values. Despite this, Gilberton has already attracted attention, as evidenced by its placement on the route of the newly to-be-opened regional corridor.
