WORONGARY SUBURB PROFILE

Worongary is a rural suburb in the Gold Coast hinterland. Located near the Pacific Motorway, the suburb lies within a 10-minute drive from Robina town centre and 20 minutes from Broadbeach.

Surrounded by rich vegetation, the Worongary suburb offers attractive acreage properties and a sense of community to home buyers seeking a rustic escape, with the Gold Coast centres within easy reach.

Worongary might have taken its name from a word that means “climbing vine”, referring to a vine used to climb a tree. The Aboriginal term “Whorrongary” is an onomatopoeic word imitating the sound made by the Little Topknot Pigeon when flying.

In the past, Worongary was a stop on the South Coast railway line. The locality featured mainly dairy farms and supplied the Merrimac Cheese Factory. The suburb was named and bounded as a locality under the Gold Coast City government in 1979 when the first land subdivisions for residential properties were completed.

Worongary features spacious and dispersed acreage properties located along hilltops that provide for some scenic views and cooler climate conditions. The median sale price for houses in Worongary is somewhat over 500,000 dollars.

The best homes are distributed in the northern part of the suburb, near the border with Highland Park. Most are new and high-end and can surpass million dollars in value.

The local Worongary State School opened in 1993. This is the only school in the suburb, but the nearest schools are all less than 4 kilometres away, for instance, the Nerang High School, the St Michaels College, Emmanuel College, or the All Saints Anglican and Mudgeeraba Primary School.
