Oxenford is located on the Gold Coast, surrounded by Upper Coomera, Helensvale and Maudsland. The Pacific Motorway runs along the suburb’s eastern border and crosses the Tamborine Oxenford Road, an important local connection. Oxenford lies south of the Coomera River and encompasses a lake in the Damian Leeding Memorial Park.

Most of the area was taken in the 1990s to host the Warner Bros Movie World, one of the best movie-making facilities in Australia.

The suburb took its name after William Oxenford who had a farm near the Coomera River in the mid 19th century engaged in experimental agriculture.

The first residential development began in the 1980s when the local school opened. Hitherto, the locality boasted a railway station, a hotel and a Catholic church, as well as multiple tourist facilities.
