JACOBS WELL SUBURB PROFILE

Jacobs Well is a small boating suburb overlooking the southern side of Moreton Bay, East of Kangaroo Island. The Gold Coast tourist strip is about half an hour down by road, with Southport being easily accessible by boat.

The town is excellent for fishing and boating aficionados who prefer a change of pace in their lifestyle, trading the hustle and bustle of bigger cities with a picturesque quiet and peace, well-connected to amenities nearby. It boasts a four-lane boat ramp with direct boat access to the Broadwater and Moreton Bay. When you pair all this with the multitude of uninhabited small islands easily explorable by boat, Jacobs Well can possibly offer everything a boat-owner home buyer could wish for.

The present-day suburb’s territory was historically part of a district called Pimpama Island, which enclosed an area between the Pimpama River and the Logan River and also included today’s Norwell, Steiglitz and Woongoolba. Jacobs Well may refer to the freshwater basin in its centre, historically, an important stop for travelers in the region.

Different accounts explain the suburb’s name as either a reference to Jacob’s Well in the Bible or as named after one of the sons of Johann Gottlieb Gross, an early settler of Pimpama Island from the middle of the nineteenth century. In either case, written sources show that by the 1870s the name was widely used to refer to a burgeoning farming locality.

Today, Jacobs Well offers well-located affordable-range homes overlooking the Broadwater and the southern Moreton Bay, most about 20 years old. Half an hour away from the Paradise Point beaches, Jacobs Well also features its own sandy beach suitable for swimming and fishing. A renowned shop for fishing and marine equipment stands strong nearby. The beach area makes for a great socializing location as barbecue facilities are also available, as well as camping and trailer grounds frequented by a reasonable number of visitors.
